The Plateau Indians had ceremonies for several things, such as catching your first fish, killing your first game, reaching puberty, and for boys 5-10, a whipping ceremony, to prevent getting sick. There were also spirit quests, which were on a mountain for 5 days, and the participants were young adolescent boys. They were not allowed to eat or drink, until they saw the spirit. Horses were used to transfer larger and more bulky items. The Plateau Indians participated in tribal gatherings at the Dalles.
