Salmon was their main source of food. They were caught from streams and rivers, then smoked. The Plateau people also depended heavily on plants for nutrition. Berries were dried and made into cakes. Edible roots such as the wild onion, wild lily bulbs, and balsam roots were roasted for flavour and preserved for the winter. The Plateau people also hunted, especially for deer. Traps were used and the prey was killed by bow and arrow. Deer hide, moccasins and salmon skin were used for clothing.
